Electronic fuel pump

Recommended Posts

JC 1965

After visiting Brian Miller's website, I decided to change from a mechanical fuel pump to an electronic one.

Brian recommends the facet fep-42sv for my raider 12.

The check valves in my mechanical fuel pump are leaking and letting the fuel drain back in the fuel line after the tractor sets for several days. This causes the starter to work extra hard, getting the fuel back to the carburetor on cold starts.

Just wondered if any of your guys have installed one of these electronic fuel pumps?

If so, are you happy with it? Any info would be appreciated! THANKS!

The fuel pump shouldn't matter for starting. The carb bowl should still have fuel in it to start. Might need a carb clean or new points?

Before I would mess around changing fuel pumps, I would perform a test.

Either close the fuel valve when you are done running the tractor and open it right before you attempt to start it again, or remove the cap and lightly "pressurize" the tank. (a "blow gun" wrapped with a sealing rag works great - or we won't tell if you do it with your mouth :banghead: )

If it starts quickly, then address the pump.

Personally, I would install a modern vacuum (pulse) pump instead of an electric pump, but that's up to you.
