6wheeler 662 #1 Posted January 27, 2011 I have a question. I bought this spreader at an auction last fall for 20 bucks. It is a tow behind spincast spreader. It holds about 2 bags of fertilizer.I can't find any numbers on it so I don't know the model number. On the bags of fertilizer it states rate settings for scotts, red devil and such, but nothing for Ag Fab. Any ideas on how to figure out the rate I should use? I just move the rate lever to open the gate, but I don't know where to set it. Any help will be appreciated. Pat
TT-(Moderator) 1,147 #2 Posted January 27, 2011 We have a calibration "catcher" for our Scott's broadcast spreaders at work. A test area is calculated. (width of pattern X a pre-measured linear distance at a set speed) We paint lines on the parking lot at the shop. The spreader is then pushed (in our case) from line to line (usually 40') with the gate open. When it crosses the second painted line, the gate is closed and the material in the catcher is weighed. Total square footage of the test area divided by weight of material in the catcher equals approximate application rate per square foot.
