Marshall,

COME ON DOWN! The "sodas" are cold! :ROTF:

Thanks DMK!

As you can tell from the pics, the left front spindle is a little bent. The right one is pretty grooved from lack of grease. I was planning on making a set for it, but I found a set in good shape. They should be here in a few days. :banghead:

I guess I better get busy on the wheels and tires! :hide:

That's cool where did you get it? And what's it for?

I got it from John (brrly). He had several of them made awhile back, in cast iron (53lbs) and aluminum (20lbs). All he had left was aluminum, so that's what I got.

It is a exact copy of the factory front weight and it's were it is intended to be.... out front. :banghead: They were also used on some of the newer vertical shaft tractors under the back somewhere.

The frame is DONE! With the exception of drilling and tapping the front hood bolt...

The new hood stand.

junior_053.jpg

All smoothed up and ready for primer...

Weight bracket... I notched it out, because it looked a bit too tall to me.

Got the tires dismounted from the wheels I'll be using. Going to pick up some transmission seals and valve stems on my way to work tomorrow. Hope to have a roller this weekend!

Anybody have a decent steering wheel laying around? I have a good 2-spoke or a 520 style one I'd trade... Or cash, of course. I could even use a Cub one (splined) if you have one laying around, as long as it resembles the Suburban one...

Thanks guys!

Didn't make a lot of progress this weekend.

I cleaned, sanded and primemerd the transmission. Sanded and painted the rear wheels and mounted the tires.... and bolted it all together.

Next up is the front axle, spindles, and steering. I found out last week that the steering sector gear was TOAST. The steering was very tight (almost siezed) when I got the tractor, and with it free'd up, there was about 3" of slop at the steering wheel. I found a good sector gear on ebay and, luckily, won it. It and the spindles (which were also FUBAR), will be here sometime this coming week. I'm going to further tighten up the steering, by making a new center link and tighten up the tie rod if it needs it.

That's all for now, JB

Jon, I have to agree. It is looking pretty sweet with them meats on the back. Nice weight, looks good. Was this the plan all the way along or were you going to use it on the 58rj? Keep up the good work. :banghead:

Bud, I don't know yet... Maybe a 2-bottom plow.... Or a sled? :banghead:

John, yes. That was the plan all along. I bought the weight just for this tractor... BTW, I got the RJ running a couple days ago! Definately had been sitting for awhile. Runs great though! A little smoky, but so am I... :hide:

Really Sharp - Great Workmanship - perfect photos, and like everyone points out - great welds. Any chance we could see a photo of the equipment? Keep up the progress reports, This thread is great.

Again - Great Workmanship. :banghead:

Thank you! I'll try to get a pic or two of my welding/ fabricating equipment... If you look in the background, you can see just about everything.

Made a little modification to one of my tractor stands...

8horse_006.jpg

I swapped out the Walbro for a Carter and got it "dialed in"...

And, painted the front wheels.

8horse_007.jpg

8horse_008.jpg

I'm STILL waiting on my steering parts... Some people just don't get in a hurry I guess... :banghead:

Not very exciting, but I got a LOT figured out today...

The county is shut down right now (1/2" of ice with 3" of sleet on top) so I had to use what I had in the shop...

I made a new clutch-brake pivot/linkage thingy out of some 1/4" flat stock and a section of a 1" bolt...

sackburner_005.jpg

As you can see, the old one was broken...

sackburner_004.jpg

sackburner_006.jpg

I also made a new pivot rod and idler pulley mount.... and a brake band linkage.

sackburner_008.jpg

I modified a 4-speed brake band (didn't have a 8-speed one) and put it all together...

sackburner_001.jpg

I made a new clutch/brake pedal to pivot linkage by straightening out a pto rod from a 520-H that I parted out a couple months ago. It turned out to be just the right length! :banghead:

sackburner_011.jpg

I also cleaned up and primered the front axle... and drilled/tapped the front hood mount.
