W9JAB 156 #1 Posted December 22, 2010 To lift the blower on this 856 took to much work. I got this spring from ACE for about $19 and drilled one 1/4in. hole in the support rail. hooked the outher end over the cross bar & done. I must say it as E-Z to lift the blower as the mower deck. [color=red]This also takes a lot of stress of my home brew "FLAG" I also made a couple of fingers to keep the belt from jumping ship.[/size :ychain:

dave2800 0 #5 Posted January 21, 2011 W9JAB, Thanks for sharing the spring idea photos. I just picked up a 1971 B-80 with a snow blower and a friend told me about guys adding a spring to make it easier to lift. What size spring did you use? Thanks, Dave
Coadster32 793 #6 Posted January 21, 2011 I have an 854 w/ a plow on it. I get the fingers on the pully/belt part, but am not quite getting the jist of the spring. I understand that the blower is heavy and this helps assist with the lifting, but I guess I can't quite follow the pics on it. Maybe a more distant view of where the spring is located. I am very intereseted.
varosd 1,185 #7 Posted January 21, 2011 Some of the ST flags had a tab with a hole for a spring to be connected the liftbar and with the flag also in the TOP hole..it is easier to lift the unit. I picked up a mid 80's ST but the flag doesnt have the tab with the hole. drilling a hole or welding a tab is one option. not sure what yrs had the tab on the flag.. someone here will know!! just putting the flag in the tippy top hole has worked fine for me!!
