whfan74 2,068 #1 Posted December 20, 2010 Picked this up at an auction about a mile away from home. Thought it would be a nice attachment to have for the fleet. The deck isn't in too bad, but could use a little bit of attention. Need to check it out and make sure everything is there. I know I will need a new belt that runs from the PTO out to the deck. Was quite suprised on the weight of that carrier...........or at least my back was!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
rickv1957 72 #2 Posted December 20, 2010 Nice set up there Scott!! Rick
RyanC 0 #3 Posted December 20, 2010 Very cool! I'm trying to figure out how it hooks up to the tractor. Does that long piece across the top of the picture somehow clamp on to the frame? Neat find!
TT-(Moderator) 1,145 #4 Posted December 21, 2010 They fasten directly into the front hitch on the 1972 & newer tractors, The beam across the back is where the height adjuster rods for the rear of the deck attach.

zieg72 209 #8 Posted December 21, 2010 Nice find, I always wondered how well they worked. Hopefully you'll have it at the next meet and great so I can check it out...
stevebo-(Moderator) 8,364 #9 Posted December 21, 2010 The advantage of that set up is that you can get under trees and such better than belly mount. Looks good Scott.
whfan74 2,068 #10 Posted December 21, 2010 Thanks guys! I am very curious on getting it all set up on one of the 300 series tractors and see what she will do. Will hopefully be able to get the mount painted before it get's installed. @Pat.............I hear you loud and clear my friend! Thanks for the compliments everyone! Lane Ranger 11,057 #11 Posted December 21, 2010 Scott: I was always intrigued by the idea of using one of those out front mower deck frames. I thought that they were developed by GE for the Elec-Trak battery tractors and that they were then manufactured by Wheel Horse for use with their electric models ( which I think you have one of -if I remember right). I understand as you have explained that they can be used on regular gas powered wheel horse tractors also. It is a very nice item to have and I look forward to seeing some photos of you using it. :ychain:
Kelly 1,030 #12 Posted December 21, 2010 Those are kind of cool I've never seen one myself, or heard how good they really work.
Gene_S 93 #13 Posted December 21, 2010 Very cool Scott... I've heard another advantage besides what Steve said is you get a better cut because you don't have the front tires on the tractor pressing the grass down and then having to suck it back up with the deck. When can I pick that up Scott??? :ychain:
fabricator2009 48 #14 Posted December 21, 2010 Scott, I live closer than Pat does. Hint Hint. Ken.
C-Series14 15 #15 Posted December 22, 2010 I had one with a 48" deck. You have to trim the deck's support bracket on the rear where the belt from the tractor goes forward to the deck's center pulley. It is in the instructions. It works well but if you mow around trees that have mulch around them or landscape material, the rear tires will ride over that area as you go around the tree. It is great for mowing under evergreens or trees of that type. :ychain:
KC9KAS 4,741 #16 Posted December 22, 2010 There is no end to the goodies that were made for our tractors! You have a very nice looking piece of equipment to work with.

wingrider 21 #21 Posted December 23, 2010 Great find Scott, I saw one that was NOS for sale on ebay a while back, but it was just the brackets to convert a regular deck. I put a couple of bids on it but it went sky high. I think if you get it hooked up you'll like how it works, the only problem I've found with a front mount is when its windy you will get grass blown back in your face. Some people sure are goood at finding those rare items and I think your one of them. Can't wait to see it Wingrider
Shuboxlover 479 #22 Posted December 23, 2010 That's a GREAT find Scott....I'M VERY HAPPY FOR YOU, and know that it's in the right hands :D
TT-(Moderator) 1,145 #23 Posted December 23, 2010 Dustin ("DMESS") has a picture of his posted in the gallery: http://www.wheelhorseforum.com/index.php?showtopic=2181 I also took a pic of it at the '08 WHCC show: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ @wingrider: the carrier frame is the kit - the mower was just a normal "belly-mount" deck and had to be bought separately. jusjeepn 59 #25 Posted December 23, 2010 Ken is pretty easy to pick out.....not because of the shirt but because of the two white puffballs that always seem to accompany him everywhere. Sorry...I couldn't resist! :ychain:
