Transmission Hesitation - Purchase Advice

I'm looking at an 855 and the owner tells me that while driving around the transmission hesitates at times. He says he not familiar with WH and doesn't know if it's "minor or major".

Any ideas

It's running for $200.

It could be as simple as an old worn out drive belt or tension spring.

Also check the key ways in the transmission drive pulley & the wheel hubs.

855's are pretty simple machines & one of my favorites.

There not much that could go wrong in the trans case that can't be fixed with a little work.

Good luck...if it's straight & running I'd probably jump at it.

Even if it needs a Trans, but I doubt it, it's worth $200 if in good shape, but I'd offer less, you never know.

All of the Hydro Horses I have used (e.g. all Sundstrands) have what I would describe as "lots of hysteresis" in the drive. What I mean by this is that if you go down a hill, at the bottom of the hill the tractor will slow way down and then, about a second later, catch up and get back to the speed you were going.

If this is what the owner is describing I would call it "normal" though since I have never driven a brand new unit so maybe it is just "common".

Not a nice thing, but fairly harmless, and you do get used to it.
