Of course we are learning about other areas that should have been taped off before the powder coating took place. Well I guess you can say.........you live and you learn.

Hey Scott, I have been looking into powder coating a bit recently. I was wondering what you think you should have taped before hand. I am thinking threaded studs and tapped holes may cause problems. Are there any other areas to look out for? Thanks for any info and keep up the good work. It's nice that you and your father have a shared interest and are able to work on this project together.

Well from what we have run in to so far is that definitely the areas that you mentioned.

Also the brake assembly that runs through the frame........that definitely should be taped off so that parts can slide on much easier. Also the top of the steering shaft so that the locking collar and steering wheel can slide on much easier.

The powder coater did use some tape in some areas that we requested.....I am assuming it is a special type of tape to be able to withstand the 400 degrees in the oven. It also didn't seem to stick to the parts and leave a sticky residue.

First time doing it.........so live and learn type of mentality right now.

It seems to be very durable and for us it was an inexpensive, clean way to get everything freshened up. :hide:

Well it has been about a month and I finally was able to go back to the barn and work on the Commando 8 for just a little while today. Wish I had more time..........I envy you guys who can focus more time on your tractors.

The other rear tire is almost on. Trying to make sure the powder coated rims don't get scratched up. Using a lot of brute persuasion to get them on. :hide:

Wow it is amazing.........was able to get out to the barn yet again this week. Tinkered on the Commando for a while this morning before I needed to hop on another tractor and do some mowing.

I am feeling encouraged by the progress that we are making. The tractor is actually slowly coming together. It was nice to roll it out in to the sunshine today for a bit. First time out of the barn, hopefully next time it will be under it's own power. :hide:

Thanks everyone for the compliments and the encouragement thus far. Hope to be riding this beauty around in a parade, show, or just for the heck of it before the summer winds down.

It's coming along nicely Scott. FYI, the Commando 8 is the featured tractor at next years show. There's a lot to see and do in the Gettysburg area. Combine a vacation with the show. Start planning early. :hide:

Thank you guys for the compliments! Buzz, that is the reason why we tried to get this one cleaned up for our first trip to the big show! Only 1 year until the show, I hope we can get it done by then! :woohoo:

Scott, Then you'll have to put it under glass for a year, as it's next years featured tractor at the WHCC Show for the 14th Annual. Make sure it's as clean as mine will be ... :woohoo:

It will be well protected Mike until the show next year. I don't know if I want to park it next to your masterpiece. It might get jealous.

Jake, I hope you and your dad make it down for the get together. It will be there ready to be driven around.......I hope! :woohoo:

Well we are almost done finally with this project. It has been a really slow process but an enjoyable one. I have learned a ton working right along side with dad. We have some things we still want to clean up and some NOS stuff that we would like to find for it at some point. The wiring isn't completed yet and is close to taking it's first breath of life in quite some time. We have a couple small things that need to be added still but you can get a good idea on what is done so far.

Hope you enjoy!

Thank you guys for the very nice compliments. It is a little dusty from being in the shop for quite some time. Going to try and get things finished up and yes it will be at Charlotte if all goes well.

@Brian............you are 100% correct, the memory that dad and I will have can not be replaced. We will be proud to have this one in our collection. We have learned a lot along the way and are pleased on the final outcome.
