neil 2,410 #2 Posted October 17, 2010 there are a few threads on hear that will give you the procedure on how to change oil seals apparently its not to difficult but just be careful when removeing wheel hubs ,you will need to use a puller to remove them as many people have broken then hub by tapping them with a hammer and they break the cast iron im from somerset uk where are you from :)

IthacaJeff 151 #4 Posted October 17, 2010 Cletus: There are several threads, including my own, on replacing the seals. I first tried the metal NAPA (USA autoparts store) seals, but they we too snug a fit and I could not drive them home. For $2.00 (USD) the Toro all-rubber seals worked. Oh, and do use a puller to get the hub off!! Jeff in Enfield/Ithaca NY
clintonnut 126 #5 Posted October 18, 2010 It is a good chance almost guaranteed that if your seals are trashed, it is a result of shot outer axle bearings. If you have the 3 speed unidrive like all pre 1969 lawn rangers have the bearing number is Torrington B-1616. BTW. If you don't want to take the tranny apart you can drive a new bearing onto the old one because the old one will just slide down the axle and not affect anything unless it is in pieces. The seals can carefully be pried out with a screwdriver from the outside. The seal number is SKF 9815. Good Luck! Charlie
