Do you know what I need to run this mower deck?

I fixed this deck up for my 867 and then figured out that it hooks up different. My 867 was upgraded at some point from a foot pedal to a pto. So if you know what I am missing or needing from the pictures and could share a photo or some information on what I need to get it going that would be great. The only thing that I know is that I may need to find a larger pulley for the deck drive but I am not sure what keeps the tension on the belt. I am also getting ready to try to throw a snow blower on there so if you have pic of the setups or any tips that would also be great. Once again thanks in advance, Chris.

I am not sure how you can run it with a PTO. If you can't figure something out you can send it to me. I had the same question about a snowthrower install and got some good pics from Lane Ranger. The post is less than halfway down the page and tittled Mounting a ST-325. Not sure if this will be any help in your situation but thought I would share it. Good luck

Chris: We have a 1966 856 with a gear driven mower deck similar to the one you have on your tractor.

My guess is you should be able to find a belt to go from the pto to the outside pulley on the mower deck -and althought it would not be a factory type set-up-it should work. You need to use some string or twine to go around the raceways and find an approximate lenght. I beleive you should be able to make it work.

Here is a picture of our recent asquisition -a 1966 856 :

Here is a pictureof the mower deck and belt setup to the motor:

You could also get a pulley for the motor -the three raceway type- but I am not sure if you have a replacement motor on your tracotr with a 1 1/8 shaft or not. The three raceway pulley is a one inch.

Any way I think you shoud be able to make you setup operate that mower deck with the pto.

It's not a great setup for a work tractor. You can't keep the belt tight and you'll be spinning the deck very fast.

Add a front tach a matic and find a newer style (1973 on) 36" deck and belt tensioner.

You'll be a lot happier in the long run.

That is too bad, I guess I can use the 36" deck on my 704. If I need to source all the parts(deck, attach-o-matic pieces) it may never mow again while in my possession. I guess I could also take the pto off and go back to a peddle system. I guess I have sometime to mull it over, once again, Thanks, Chris.
