Tecumseh starter bendix question

Hi, I have a spare starter for my HH 100 thats has lots of torque but the bendix is bad. It will not retract after you release the key and also the rubber/plastic cover behind the gear is also gone too. It feels free when you work it by hand but as I said it doesnt retract like it should when you use it. I would hate to think that the starter is done just because of the bendix. Im going to take it apart tomorrow and see how it comes apart, and hopefully I will see something like a worn spring behind the bendix that I can replace or something . Are there replacement bendix assemblies availiable for these starters? .
