I have had limited success calling him on the phone, but have not been able to speak to him since the show in June. I did speak to his wife in July.

I don't live too far from him, so I may take a drive to his office and see what's up sometime next week.

I asked for decals a couple times before the 2008 show, March I believe.

I've never heard back, so I never asked again... :)

My tractors still look just fine.

The real shame concerning the WH tractor decal situation:

There are currently only two individuals, to my knowledge, who supply WH decals to this community. Neither of them do this as a full-time job, so the rest of my statement is somewhat understandable.

- Neither individual gives good customer service, period. Sad but true statement.

- Both have made promises to way too many individuals which either;

....... 1) do not come through on their promise, or

....... 2) take so long to do so as to be beyond an understandable period of time.

If anyone else out there had the capability to manufacture these decals, market them appropriately, and actually provide good customer service by shiping them, even within a week, would make the buying public stream to their door.

I sincerely wish I had the time, money, and inclination to do so myself, I'm sure I'd make a killing.

Mike, Terry (Vinylguy) has always sent me terrific quality decals in a timely fashion (three orders). The longest took, as I recall, about two weeks. Granted these were "stock" sets from his advertised inventory. I can't speak to his record on special orders. Just my experience...... :USA:

I do agree, however, that we're all beholden to a pretty limited supply. Let's hope our hobby continues to grow so the market can support someone devoting more time to making decals for us. Hmmm...maybe in my retirement.........

Duff :)

I bought the vinyl graphics on my puller from Terry. We worked out the design on a Sunday afternoon by e mail, I paid him by Paypal and they were in my mail box Wednesday when I got home from work. The quality was great and the price was even better.

I've made multiple purchases from him and never had a problem.

I too have had really good service from Vinylguy. I ordered a set of decals for my 702 with, he even printed my tractors serial number on the shift pattern decal and he got it to me very fast,if I remember, it was within a week from beginning to end and I live in Egypt ...ok I live in Az but close enough :USA: I would and have recomend him to anyone , anytime. I have no experience with Mayhews as I have never ordered anything from him.

John

Yup, Im still here :)

I too have had really good service from Vinylguy.

Ditto

2 sets of C series and a 520 all delivered within a week or two after requested.

But then I used the two magic words that make things happen.

I've used Ed Mayhew in the past and his decals are first rate. I know his job demands a lot of his time as well as family obligations so his decal operation has been put on the back burner. Maybe if one of you younger go-getters offered to buy out his business he'd sell it. Then you could have the pleasure that comes with running your own business

I haven't needed to buy decals lately so I haven't ordered off Terry. I've seen his work and was very impressed and heard nothing but good things about him. Once again, this is just his sideline for now. His main job puts the food on the table.

There is a third option: http://www.normstoys.com/decalsandmanuals.htm

When I did my 1968 Lawn Ranger he was the only one that made the hood decals. A word of warning though, Norm is getting up there in years, he was one of the original Wheel horse dealers, so he might not be making as many as he did. Give him a call and tell him what you need, it wouldn't hurt.

I don't think Mahews decal operation ever made it to the front burner to be pushed to the back... :) . Back burner is one thing.... over a year to get two decals I ordered for a mower deck was way too long.....

Eds decals made it to the top for years he was the only one making decals then a few other guys started making them.

Not taking up for Ed but like Buzz said his are top notch and yes they were on the top burner but as was said work son in collage and on the job away from home takes up a lot of time.

If theres any way one can be at the show next year 2011 go by and see Ed and get your decal then like I do for tractors.

PS dont let the dog get after you that dog doesnt like me at all

As was stated previously on the other post that contained these remarks-

We invite you to do so. You may indeed make a killing, but if it's just Wheel Horse decals- then the killing you make may not be the one you have in mind.

I'll stick by Terry and his quality decals and excellent customer service. Mike, you let us know how your endeavor works out.

I for one have passed my limit of tolerance where this type of garbage is concerned. I was a member here when Terry joined- and he is as much an asset now as he was then, if not more so. Those who have come along since with nothing better to do than to create conflict and complain? Perhaps they should find a site that rewards such things. It is not appreciated here.

You would make a killing after buying the computer equipment and programs, the the special printer, and all the vinyl and inks, I don't think so, you will have a few grand wrapped up in that stuff, I mean quality equipment, my hat is off to Terry for putting up with this BS posting, and you guys knocking him.

I asked a local sign maker if he could make my decals, he said yes no big deal has all the stuff to do it right, cost??? $90 for the first set and $60 each set after that, so Terry is cheap.

I use a Graphtec plotter to make stencils for my stones. It's a horse of a machine, but probably nothing compared to what these guys are using. List - about 6000.00

The software alone to run it - 4000.00

I don't know what they're using. But if it's something like a Roland cut and print . . . it's probably 25000.00 or more.

Keeping the software up to date could cost as much as 1000.00 every few years or so.

The vinyl and ink cost are also up there, because in order to be cost effective, you need to buy in quanities, much of which will most likely spend months on the shelf waiting for a project.

Then there's the time factor designing. I've been using my equipment for a little over a year, and can still only do a fraction of what it's capable of doing.

I OWN all the equipment necessary to start making WH decals . . . and I wouldn't even consider it.

Food for thought.

I'm glad to see you have an opinion as well. Although, I and many others disagree with you.

As I previously and quite clearly stated, I have neither the time, money, or inclination to make decals myself. But, whenever a void is present, there is always someone else out there to fill that gap.

An additional note, I did not make the statement in "the other post" to which you refer, it was my words plagiarized (without my knowledge or consent) by another member and customer of Terry who is also un-satisfied with the customer support. Whether you think my statements garbage or not, the sentiment is out there and very real and present. Terry himself admitted to his lack of response in "the other post".

Terry does fabulous work, I can't argue with that. What lacks is any sort of consistent and reasonable turn-around time in many of cases, for just as many people. I understand that this is not his primary work, and his main business comes first at the expense of all else. I cannot blame him for that either, I would do no less.

I, and a lot of folks here, am/are willing to plunk down some good money for his custom work. What is expected in return is a good product and good customer service. That was my intention from the start, to get Terry and Ed to realize the sentiment is there, and perhaps change his method of better keeping track of the Wheel Horse work that comes in.

We all have the right to our own opinions. You as well. Thank you for your comments and continuing the discussion in this thread.

Lets keep in mind the real issue.... Terry and Ed do not do this as their primary employment. And seeing no one else can justify taking this project over..... Terry and Ed spending only part of their time is alot more then none of their time.

Collectors/ Restores are a small population, go easy on the few vendors which have made a decision to spend their time and efforts truely for peanuts. I for one wouldn't want them to go tell us to "poo-in-our-hats"............
