HYDRO PROBLEM

Recommended Posts

REDNGREEN

I have noticed the last few times mowing that after warming up for 10 to 15 minutes that my c120 auto will not climb small inclines any more. I changed the filter and oil and at the beginning of this season. I would say that I have put probably 15 hours on it since then. Cant remember for sure what i put in, but I put in whatever the sticker on the side said to put in. I think it was 10w30 or 40. Anyway, the oil looks like new and is still full. Any suggestions?

Thanks

what kind of oil did you put in? Certain oils will foam when warm and cause lots of problems :USA:

Yes, I am pretty sure it was 10W40 but i will check tomorrow. This is starting to sound not so good. I thought it sounded odd to put motor oil in there but I asked a guy at the local small engine shop (Toro dealer) and he agreed with what the belt guard said. What do you recomend in the future and do you think I ruined my pump?

10w-30 should be correct, that's what i put in my 1976 c-160, and they should have the same hydro. have you checked/replaced your drive belt? it could be worn out, and when it gets hot it could stretch out a bit and cause your problem. good luck, keep us informed

I replaced the belt at the same time I did the filter and oil but the poor tractor has been sitting outside in the rain and elements ever since then. At the time I needed to get it running the toro dealer was closed and and the original belt was really bad shape so the only thing I could go by was visibly match it up with one at the "Thiesens" store. So I am not positive it is 100% perfect fit but it worked for a while. Now that I think about it, could this possibly be an issue related to the linkages and rust from the elements?

The P/N for your drive belt is 7478 it should be about 84" long 5/8"wide. Check your Transmission pully it may be slipping on the shaft.

You say that it's fine for a little bit, and then slows down.....If it was a rusty linkage, I would think it would do it ALL the time, and not just when it has been running for a bit. :)

Yeah, I figured it was a stretch on the rust being the problem. I know the hydro lever is a little stiffer than it used to be and was thinking that maybe it wasnt travelling forward far enough but you are right, that cant be the problem if it only does it when hot. I will hopefully get some time this weekend to check into it a little deeper. Thanks so much for all your help so far.
