puddlejumper 67 #1 Posted September 30, 2010 Was wanting some info on throttle and choke linkage. The linkage that was on it was definetly wrong so I set it up like my 33r which I am99% sure is original (linkage mounted to blower housing) will this be factory correct for the 552? Also should this tractor have a exhaust support from the case of the engine? Thanks for any help I know this may be trivial to some degree but I just want original if possible. TT-(Moderator) 1,131 #2 Posted September 30, 2010 No exhaust support, but they did use a bolt-on exhaust "manifold". This pic is of a 32E, which is the same as the 552: (ignore the incorrect air cleaner assembly) The throttle linkage was on the blower housing, but I don't have any pictures that show it clearly. sorekiwi 761 #3 Posted September 30, 2010 This is from a 502: I know that Terry is right about 99% of the time, but mine had an exhaust brace:
puddlejumper 67 #4 Posted September 30, 2010 Well that was helpful, anybody have one of those exhaust flanges they would part with. I was hoping for the support bracket because the inner threads on my block are about shot and need all the help they could get. That is the first time I have seen that flange and it would cure the problem with the bad threads. It wont look just right but I believe I can machine a rectangular one If I cant find one. And still put the brace under it for comforts sake. I will have to kick around in the rocks and cipher on that one for a while Thanks guys.
TT-(Moderator) 1,131 #5 Posted September 30, 2010 Now that you mention it - I have seen the braces on a few 62 models. (but none still had the original HT Lauson ~ including my 502 & 552) Perhaps they were added part way into production? I can't help with the bolt-on manifold, but I might have an extra brace here somewhere.
puddlejumper 67 #6 Posted September 30, 2010 TT I have lost your wish list from earlier adventure but resubmit and we will do some trading.
sorekiwi 761 #7 Posted September 30, 2010 Mine had the brace, but there was no U-bolt to hold he exhaust steady. It had pulled the threads out of the block, and cracked through the side of the exhaust port. I had a friend weld the block back up, then did the machining to refit the exhaust manifold. Foumd another blurry picture of the carb part of the linkage:
puddlejumper 67 #8 Posted September 30, 2010 With that info it gets the brace original or not (with the clamp of coarse). Im satisfied with the linkage its identical to my 33r
TT-(Moderator) 1,131 #9 Posted September 30, 2010 Looky what I found in the shop! One NOS #5646 (old #2297) exhaust brace complete with genuine OEM female u-bolt! (I know you'll get the "female" joke.) You know how to find me...... and I might even be able to find that grocery list again. :)
puddlejumper 67 #10 Posted September 30, 2010 TT I was looking at the head shroud on the picture you posted and was wondering if there was just bushings under it with longer head bolts to make up for the 3 recessed head bolts holes in the head, mine and kiwis are the same ,where that head appears to be flat like a h60. Ill PM you later to swap Info;going to go tinker in the shed.
