800 Special Haul

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, with my charger in a million parts and no progress on the resto lately, I decided to get a new toy :)

From what I can tell its a 1971 800 special with a briggs engine. I cant even find out how many horse it is. The carb is in pieces and the long jet has been snapped in half. Im not sure if I am better to try and find a whole new carb or not?

Numbers off the Wheelhorse:

"1 0150 6" "762183"

Numbers off engine

"190434" "0638-01" "700902"

I think I did ok for $140 here in Florida. The deck is in pretty good shape too. Also it has an electric PTO.

Yep 800 Special with an 8HP Briggs and Stratton motor.

Nice tractor and this was the tractor made in 1971 when Wheel Horse was on strike.

It has the Peerless Transmission in it and the first front mule drive - and you have the cover on it which is often gone.

Heck, I think you did great for $140 no matter what part of the country you're from!

Thanks guys, I rebuilt the carb yesterday and was able to get everything running this morning. I was pretty pleased to find out the transmission is good and the electric PTO and everything works as it should.

One question I have is there was no air cleaner with the mower. I can get a new assembly for $100 or do you think it would be fine to buy a generic filter and make it fit? This is just going to be a yard tractor, not a show piece so im not too worried about everything being original, just more concerned with how easy a different filter could be made to fit.

Thanks!

Bevan
