Steering Wheel Spinner Knobs?

Recommended Posts

mowerman1193

Something you used to see all the time on just about anything that had a steering wheel..Don't see them much anymore. Though I think they are illegal for autos etc now but I still used to see them on tractors a lot until the last few years..

Been a long time since I had used one and forgot how nice they are to use until I went to mow my friends yard for them while they was out of town..They had a newer cheapy Cub Cadet and it had a spinner knob on it..Also had foot control for the ground speed..Never used one of those before..The foot control was ok but the spinner knob was nice to use..

Anyone else like to use spinner knobs? Might have to get me some for my Wheel Horse's

Kevin

My '89 520 came with one. My son and I like it, so we put one on his C-161 and my other 520.

I have two tractors with them and like them, but remember if you have a really nice older hard to find steering wheel I'd think twice before installing it, as after you do, the wheel will probably have permanent marks in it.

I use them. Even found some red ones. They really work well on the green ones I have w/power steering.

Tractor works so much easier using a spinner knob :) .

I have one on the D-160......helps out a bunch until my 4 year old daughter was sitting on one of my legs that the small bolts that stick out the bottom caught her leg while we were turning around. She didn't appreciate that too much and even at 4 years old you get a little of this....... :)

I agree with Kelly......would be too nervous to put it on one of the older steering wheels.

Had a couple and really liked them, made the job so much easier.

But like Kelly mentioned, nice vintage steering wheel, that's a no, no. :)

I've been thinking about this :)

I have a 502 that has one, and I use it and like it. None of my other tractors have them, but apart from the Lawn Ranger they all have a lot heavier steering than the 502 and I'm not sure that I want one on them. Now you guys have got me wondering...

It'd be great on the Lawn Ranger, but like Kelly said, I dont want to mess up the wheel.

It will probably still leave marks but the Deere one I bought had a very padded clamp on it..

Would really be nice to find some with the Wheel Horse logo center like the Deere one I bought..

Look on Ebay, I just checked and there are over 300 listed right now. Some are old and some are new so theres a good selection. They seem to be going for resonable prices too :USA:

I hope that this helps you some.

John

Still stuck in Arizona :) ... for now

Either I am blind or searching the wrong way as I do not see any Wheel Horse logo steering wheel spinner knobs on eBay..Maybe you thought I was talking about steering wheel center caps?

Thanks,

Kevin

Sorry Kevin, I didnt know that you were looking for ones with WH on them, I thought you were just looking for steering wheel spinner knobs. Theres 8 pages of them but only looked at the first couple of them. I did notice a Farmall Cub spinner knob and theres even a Marilyn Monroe pinup spinner knob listed too :)

The slang name for those is "suicide knobs". I think they work great on tractors, but on cars...I have the feeling that they earned their name. :) I remember them on the old cars that did not have power steering...the steering wheel was twice the size of the new ones and you had to turn it forever to go around a corner. :USA:

I've known them as "Brodie" knobs forever, but have also heard them called suicide knobs.

I've had one on my trike for 3 years:

Here's where it came from:

fttfrdes012.jpg

They're still in business, but the knobs went up $5 since I bought mine. (probably why they're still in business :USA: )

I sent them the image file and the basically just printed the logo on a piece of card stock, cut it in a circle, and placed it in their spinner.

If you can find the "blank" (empty) knobs, making the insert with a computer/printer would be a snap. :)

This same Spinner Knob is available at www.AMAZON.com, just type in "Spinner Knob", for less than $5, where you would insert your own picture, but, be sure to read the 'product Reviews' concerning quality. At GOOGLE you'll find a lot more, buying a bunch at once may save on shipping ($7 S&H for one); foam/rubber might help reduce damage to the Steering Wheel.
