btrrg1969 11 #1 Posted August 27, 2010 As I said earlier today , I just put on a brand new 42 " RD deck , the deck is a 2006 never used before , I greased the spindles about 5 shots each ,so heres my question is that enough or should I grease lil more after first use ? Also I noticed that the double pulley (drive)is 4.5" in diam as to 5" diam on the 48 SD that was removed , with that being said, do the 42" RD turn at a higher rpm? TT-(Moderator) 1,131 #2 Posted August 27, 2010 Find yourself a nice quiet spot and pump grease until you hear it lightly "crack" out from in between the bearings. I think it took around 20 or 25 pumps each (with my grease gun - but different models vary) to get that to happen on my NOS 42" SD deck. The spindles turn faster on the 42" deck (compared to the 48) because the blades are shorter. There was a post on here not long ago discussing optimum/maximum blade tip speed for efficient and proper cutting action.
