nylyon-(Admin) 7,295 #1 Posted December 11, 2006 How do I adjust the clutch on a 414-8. Since 1974, I have only used Wheel Horse Automatics. The clutch on the 414-8 seems to grab way too high, I would like it to grab a little lower with the pedal. I haven't dug into this at all, but how does the clutch work, does it just tension the drive belt?
Sparky-(Admin) 21,353 #2 Posted December 11, 2006 There is no adjustment. If the pedal grabs to high then the drive belt is worn/stretched. If you take the time to remove the belt guard and swap the belt its worth it to swap the idler pulley and the clutch spring while yer in there. The belt I have been getting at my W.H. Dealer for about $20 or so and the pulley is around $10 and the spring should be cheap also. I have had the clutch spring give out in the snow while plowing and it really sucks. Mike...been there done that
