ba2988 27 #1 Posted August 14, 2010 Was mowing yesterday and the tractor came to a sudden dead stop. After getting off and making sure that I hadn't run over anything and checking drive belt I started it back up and put it into reverse - went a few feet and stopped sudden again. I was able to limp back to the garage if going very slow. This morning went out and rechecked everything belts, motion control linkage, fluid level and everything looked ok. Started it up and was able to go about 10 feet before it stopped. After that I couldn't even push the tractor more than 2 feet in either direction even if pushing very slow. I'm thinking that its an issue with the trans and not the hydro pump. Any thoughts? Took me all morning to get it back in the garage - had to come up with a unintended use for a front mower deck carrier -removed rear tires and put the carrier under the tractor, wheels toward the back and hooked into the mid tachamatic. Tractor is a 93 - 314 with hydro and hydrolic lift. Lift still operates fine and there was no strange noises from the hydro pump when I was trying to move. ba2988 27 #2 Posted August 18, 2010 Well I haven't had time to take this to the shop or look into it myself further. Assuming the worst, that its an issue with any of the main components to the hydro system (pump, transmission, transaxle) what are some potential donor tractors with rear ends that I could use for parts/components. I dunno Jim I think if he sheared off the shaft keys he would be able to roll the tractor . I believe you can have hyd pressure for raiseing and lowering the deck and still not move the tractor but this sounds more like something has came apart in the trans. hopefully TT will chime in on this problem Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

(The more attempts made at trying to get it to move, the more damage could potentially occur - so............. Pull the transaxle, split it, and have a look. Hubs are stuck and have been soaking the last few days...good posts here with ideas on how to get them off that doesn't work. ba2988 27 #11 Posted September 28, 2010 TT was 100% correct! Finally got the left hub pulled and into the transaxle case. One of the bolts had worked itself loose and was jammed in the differential gears. To my surprise there doesn't appear to be any damage - I had already picked up a differential assembly for $10 off ebay and it has the bolts. Now I just have to get the right side hub off to fix. kpinnc 12,443 #13 Posted September 29, 2010 Just a reminder here- ALWAYS use new locknuts (all metal, not the nyliner type) on the differential bolts. It will be very helpful in preventing the same thing in the future. And keep the tranny CLEAN inside while it's opened up. You'll be glad you did! :) Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
