meadowfield 2,570 #1 Posted July 25, 2010 Hi from sunny england... just acquired a Norlett tractor. with the model number 2-4300, serial 138055 It has no model stickers, but looks very much like a wheelhorse. The steering gear, wheels and chassis make it look very much like a 70's wheelhorse. It has has an engine transplant at some time (now has a 300cc JAP engine). Cutter deck is a centre discharge with bevel gear drive - which looks very novel ! would appreciate any help dating and finding the equivalent wheelhorse - we can then look for spares and the correct engine. best regards mark
stevasaurus 22,762 #2 Posted July 25, 2010 I'm thinking this 857 of mine kind of looks close to yours. This is a 1967 with an 8 hp kohler. See what you think. Your dash plate is a newer style though...the mower deck looks like a typical RM 326 or RM 366. :D
meadowfield 2,570 #4 Posted July 25, 2010 Hi, From the only post I can find on the interweb - the belgian models were mid 70's. I think I'm a bit newer here - though it looks very similar... being a newbie to wheelhorse they all look pretty similar ! plastic dash is very 70's... dscott2000 1 #9 Posted July 26, 2010  Your Norlett looks just like my Raider 8! For the exception, mine doesnt have an electric clutch. Here's a picture.
meadowfield 2,570 #11 Posted September 1, 2010 Update ! After stripping down it appears to be a cut n' shut job. It is two tractors rolled into one. Chassis rails are possibly commando 800 or Raider8, Steering upright, bonnet, are from the original tractor model no.v 2-4300. Looks like the original colour to this was gold! The whole rear end is something different as it has been welded to the frontend and there is a step change in height of the material section. I'm guessing this has enabled a gearbox transplant at some point... Original colour of this is wheel horse red. Gearbox has no markings at all, but is a 4 speed unit with 4 pinion diff. 3rd gear was completely shot, but with some clever welding, die grinding and a 10 ton press it is repaired and engages perfectly. Will post some more pics when I get time. mark
VinsRJ 721 #12 Posted September 1, 2010 Even if its a couple tractors put together, it still looks good to me. I really like the name plate on the nose.

meadowfield 2,570 #14 Posted September 2, 2010 :WRS:someone please educate me on these tractors , never heard or seen one before , looks great. Other than the topic on this forum there is very little known about them. It appears Norlett - A Norwegian company had a number of badged A-90's made for them in 1974. Despite mine being green, the bonnet colour is actually gold underneath - so I'm assuming they were gold?!? They were made in the same belgian factory as the wheelhorse C-101 I have. mark

Will post some more pics when I get time. mark Well heres a few more pics of the restoration, would like to know what the backend is, frontend is A-90 I can't identify the gearbox though either. Brake seems to be in a different place to the other gearboxes I have seen/ Any experts shed any further light? TT-(Moderator) 1,131 #19 Posted September 4, 2010 I can't identify the gearbox though either. Brake seems to be in a different place to the other gearboxes I have seen #5084/5085 4 speed style like was used in the '73 8-4 speed or '74/'75 B-80 models over here. (not sure about axle length though) Comparing it to the earlier models, the brake drum was moved to the counter shaft from the reduction (pinion) shaft - for what I'm assuming to be better braking through more reduction. :)

meadowfield 2,570 #22 Posted April 18, 2011 thanks ! original colour was gold - it was green when we acquired it, so we decided to keep it green....
