What machine, and which linkage rod are you talking about. The three machines you have listed don't offer a clue.

EDIT: If it is the shifter, see this post: http://www.wheelhorseforum.com/index.php?...07&hl=dog+point

Sounds like the set-screw that hold the shift rod in place has worked loose.

bet you guys are right about that set screw. trans was working fine, and as i said the play linkage just got sloppier the last few times i mowed. what's the procedure for replacing it? can the linkage rod be removed from the top of the case with out removing the trans? thanks . . . scott

Scott...yes you can take out the shifter without dropping the trans. Lift the boot up and you should see the set screw and you should also see a lock nut on the set screw. I am guessing your lock nut is already loose. Tighten the set screw, and then back it off a little (maybe 1/2 turn) and then tighten the lock nut. Should be good to go.

turns out the roll pin that holds that pivot bushing thingy on the shift rod is sheared. does anyone know the size of that roll pin? it looks like it has to be about 3/4" . thanks in advance . . . scott

from uh-oh B) to oh. okay . . . i see :banghead:(found the loose set screw) to :thanks: then  shift rod turning on that pilot/pivot/ bushing  to oh . . . i see . . . again. (found the sheared roll pin) to :wh: that was easy . . . so now it's all back together and the shifter is working sweetly . . . and then back to :omg: uh oh . . . why won't the tractor move???? after a little :D i walk away for awhile, thinking i have to take it back apart cause i did something wrong, but what could it be? it's in neutral . . . transmission seems to engaging all the gears . . . but i let the clutch out and it doesn't move. so i don't get all :omg: i get a link from rmaynard and see that i did put it back together right . . . so before i can get all :D i resign myself to accepting that i'll have to get the wrenches out tomorrow. (continued on next reply)

:D oh well. then it happens . . . one of my favorite things. Divine intervention. i start to push it to the spot, and just for the heck of it i move the shift rod a little while i'm pushing it and my hand slips off and bumps the high low lever. the tractor stops and i'm all :thanks: and :D and so i get on and fire her up and cut grass for an hour or so. the moral of the story perseverance with a good attitude does pay off . . . and like my old friend from southern GA., bobby bill jimbo used to say when i asked him "what's wrong"? he'd say, "well scottie . . . you just can't might not never can tell . . . maybe nothing."! peace . . . scott

I'll be sure to shift both of my sticks if it won't move. :D

I'm very glad that's all the problem was.

My dad always told me, "when it comes to mechanical stuff, always look for the simple stuff before tearing into it". Glad you found the Hi/Lo problem before you opened her back up.
