516 H with forward swept

Recommended Posts

Ok, so I want to put a forward swept axle on my 516. Why, I just think it looks cool.

I have the axle, found a sweet deal on a NOS part number 116823. Can I use my spindels in that or are the "bores" in the housing too large?

From what I've read through a search I will need the tie rods for the axle OR I can make a bracket to adapt mine to them.

Do I also need the lower steering shaft?

It seems wierd since from what I've read BOTH the H and the HC came with the forward swept axle, but one didn't have gear reduction steering. If I didn't want to have the reduction would my lower shaft work?

thanks!!!!!!

You will need the 1" spindles for that axle, and the tie rods, I've made a adaptor to bolt on to a standard lower steering gear so you don't have to change that but with out a patern kinda hard to make one, so a lower steering shaft would be nice, or a complete gear reduction set up, hang on to your wallet these parts are not cheap even used, and buying used spindles is a crap shoot I bought three sets before I got a good pair used, and you will need the big bore front wheels also to fit the spindles.

Could you put bushings in the axle down to 3/4" and use the spindles and wheels you have? 1" to 3/4" brass or oillite bushings are not hard to find. It should work unless the swept axle is taller on the ends.

I think I've found some spindles, so that's one thing out of the way.

On the steering shaft, kelly, was that your way of offering to sell me something? If so, I'll bite.

As far as the wheels, what should I be on the lookout for?? Any particular models etc???

Thanks!!!

No nothing to sell right now, sorry I have 2 more complete set ups but maybe using them even thought they are worn bad.

Wheels only ones IO iknow that fit for sure are the ones from a 520 with the forward swept axle, some boat trailer hubs will fit then you can use bolt on wheels like from small trailer, campers, boats, ect.... just measure first not all hubs will fit.

Shoot, I was hoping you were volunteering the adapter you made...
