tarcoleo 119 #1 Posted July 10, 2010 Just wondering if any of you fellows have found way of making the tractor/deck combination significantly quieter. I realize that part of noise is aerodynamic from the deck blades, but what about a quiet muffler? Some have used a vertical muffler original to the small Farmall. In this case reportedly, quiet is not obtained. But is there a practical quiet muffler that can be made to fit an 11-13 hp engine, in my case, Honda power? rick 245 #2 Posted July 10, 2010 Jack's Small Engines sells a Super Trapp muffler said to be quieter than stock OEM mufflers. I am considering one for my Troy-Bilt Horse I tiller, equipped w/ a K161. They are expensive mufflers, but might be worth it. I just haven't jumped off the fence yet.
Butch 194 #3 Posted July 10, 2010 I didn't even know they made them for tractors and Troy-Bilt tillers. They were very popular for 4 stroke dirt bikes 15 years ago and were not cheap. Compared to the dirt bikes I'd say $60 is cheap. Sound and performance were/are adjustable by adding or removing plates. Butch S. Jersey
DoctorHfuhruhurr 137 #4 Posted July 10, 2010 I went the cheap route and use ear protection from Harbor Freight.

rick 245 #6 Posted July 10, 2010 You have to buy a resonator to really lower the sound, there are two sizes of mufflers, and they have multiple screens according to horsepower rating of the engine. The largest can be used up to 100 horsepower. It's not the same Super Trapp as used for racing, I think.
