dgjks6 6 #1 Posted July 6, 2010 So I am finally to the stage of rebuilding my transmission. Was inspecting all gears prior to reassembly. I have two transmissions in pieces and I am hoping to get enough parts for onre good one. Here are the two 2nd/3rd gears that go on the high shift rail. Does on look good enough to use? Does a little wear matter? None of the other gears in either trans shows any wear. or should I get a new one?
clintonnut 126 #2 Posted July 6, 2010 The one on the right in the first picture still looks fine. Charlie
dgjks6 6 #3 Posted July 6, 2010 Thanks for the quick reply. I think I'll try it. A new one in $46. The one on the right is worn on the bottom a little more than the one on the left. see bottom pic. But the one on the left is worn a lot on the top comapred to the one on the right. see top pic.
stevasaurus 22,898 #4 Posted July 7, 2010 I reserve the right to be wrong here...but I would put the gear on the right on the 2nd and 3rd shift fork and the gear on the left on the reverse and 1st gear fork. My thinking comes from the fact that the trans was probably popping out of 2nd or 3rd with a load, if you are mowing in 2nd gear or moving snow the best gear would be in the right place. I would like to know what some others think on this. :D
dgjks6 6 #5 Posted July 7, 2010 actually they are both the 2/high gear. I have 2 of them. Just trying to see which if any is still good. from the sound of it the righ one seems better. thanks all
rueger-99 0 #6 Posted July 7, 2010 Hard to tell...the pics are a little fuzzy. Do you have a Macro setting on your camera for close-ups?
