Farmall Cub Muffler

Recommended Posts

Guys,

Has anyone used a Farmall Cub muffler for their Wheel Horse? They sell them at Tractor Supply for about $20 up here. I am hoping that it would quiet down this 12HP K Series Kohler.

They aren't overly quiet, but I think they have a good sound.

I've been using the same muffler as TT and I agree with him 100% its not the quietest!!! Its been on my 416 for at least five years now. Its like looking into a glass pack muffler a straight shot through with ribs on the sides to catch some sound.

When running the stack are you adding a support of any kind?

A support is highly recommended on a "working" tractor.

My narrow-front Charger pictured above sees very limited use so I didn't install a brace.

No pics  but I have one on my 702. I don't know that it's any quieter than the pepper shaker style, but it has a nice tone and gets the oil smoke up out of my face. :D

I used one on my C-160. It sounded great, but I would catch the stack on low hanging tree limbs, and it wasn't that much quieter.

I went back to a newer style stock muffler, for a 81 C-145. The canister is a bit larger and quieter than the stock muffler for a 75 C-160.

Does anyone have a pic of the support bracket. I need an idea where to put it on a 1968 Electro 12.

Something like this, perhaps?

That was on a pulling tractor with a straight pipe stack, so there wasn't quite as much to support. It should give you a rough idea where to start though.

I use Cub Cadet mufflers for verticle stacks. They already have a 90 degree inlet.

I use a 45 degree street elbow,a pipe nipple and a muffler clamp.I like them extended so I weld on a piece from a chain link fence line post and use a rain cap from TSC.I have run them this way for close to 10 yrs without any additional bracing and have not had any issues.

I ran one on my 1137 when it was running with a 14.5 hp B&S did not use a support but when I hit a branch I would have to turn it back up-right (kept the pipe threads kinda loose so it would turn and not break) Now that muffler is on my 10 hp stock puller, but I should probably fab up a brace for that one.

I will admit it will scare the bagesus out of the neighbors when it gets a good after-fire going. :scared-eek: :D

Here is a pic of my one C-160. I used a muffler for a 108 Cub Cadet that has a 10hp kolher. This is the same set up Big Mike said he uses & I have also had no problems with out a support.

i really like stacks, they look great and sound good and seem to let the tractors exhaust flow good but i caught mine on a limb and broke the kohler elbow, lucky for me it didnt wreck the block, and i had it braced but that didnt help for hitting it backwards,i dont think anything would,it bent the whole muffler where the pipe is welded to it,great for show girls

I have a question. Will a cub cadet muffler like on the C-160 from whc160 fit on my 312-8? Is it the right diameter so it'll fit on the exhaust nipple of my 12hp magnum Kohler? Also, will it clear the hood?

Thanks in advance,

P-J

The 300/400 series hoods as well as the "blackhoods" our pretty wide.

I would think you'd need to remove the stub coming out of the elbow & use a little longer pipe so it wouldn't be right on the hood.
