Which one?

I love my Wheelhorse. Unfortunately it doesn't have a mower deck. I have over an acre to mow, not a bit of it is level, and there is really no grass. My string mower just isn't cutting it.... of you know what I mean.

I'm about to the point of buying a riding mower/tractor. I thought I'd ask you guys which one is the best. I have a budget of around two grand.

Just so we understand, you are mowing sloped lot, an acre in size with nothing but weeds ?

The slope might require a pressure lubed engine and the weeds might require a little more horsepower to hack thru.

It's hard to beat the Cub Cadet LTX series. Heavy duty frame, tight turning radius, etc. Avoid the LTX1042 as it has only the CVT transmission, but the rest of the LTXs have the Hydro-Gear hydrostatic transmissions in them. The only negative, though and it might be a deal breaker for you, is that I heard they're not the best on going up hill on slopes. But most new tractors in that price range are not going to be either. For a few hundred more you can move up the Cub Cadet GT2500 series, which are garden tractors with shaft drive, cast iron transmissions.

It's a gentle slope... unless you're pushing a heavy string mower up the hill. Nothing really steep. The weeds are small ones, but they're a foot tall now.

The slope might require a pressure lubed engine and the weeds might require a little more horsepower to hack thru.

That's why I was thinking of not too big of a deck. Cutting too much at once would require more horsepower than I think I can afford.

looked at your website - you have some neat projects started there.

Given that you have some "farm" responsibilities, you might want to consider a smaller farm tractor along the lines of maybe a Ford 8n with a small brush hog. The 8n runs forever and is an easy fix with parts readily available.

You might be lucky enough to score a tractor, bucket loader and brush hog for a $2000 price tag.

I know a guy in CA that has some Wheel Horses and LOTS of good stuff that he took home from the WH Show raffle!!! ..would bet that he could fix you up with another Horse or a WH deck!!!....are you awake Mr M????? :D

Hey Dave you are not the only Wheel Horse owner in California. There is s guy named Bruce out there in Riverside if I remember correctly and he owns several tractors. Find a good deck, look for a decent price on shipping and there you will have your answer that Wheel Horse will out live any other lawn tractor you would ever purchase. Good Luck See Ya, Bye Burly

Riverside is only 350 miles away from here.

I'm also looking for a trail mower to tow behind my Wheelhorse.
