Yah Yah Yah... So he did the EASY part and built the tractor by hand completly out of stainless ... I'm waiting for the pics of the solid block of stainless being machined into the K91 Kohler or the Clinton!!!

Guess I'll be the one to ask, when casting your steering wheel, what the heck was the crayon for? Just filling the hole where your poured the resin in?

the crayon was used to form the pour hole for the casting resin when I

made this mold as the rtv silicone mold compound will not stick to wax

I can't wait to see this done. I hope you plan on using original sheet metal and painting that red. That'll make for one good looking tractor.

I do have two issues I noticed in the pictures. First, the front suspension stops would be at the wrong angle if the front axle is against them. They'll definitly stop the axle but they might leave a mark in it. Second, I question the usabilty of your front spindle design. I know that the factory spindles have a rake to them that is there for a purpose. I can't recall if it is for caster to help the tracking or Ackerman which makes the inside tire turn more than the outside tire, or just for ease of steering. If this tractor is just going to be for looks you should be fine, but if you plan on driving or using it, you might want to research that a little farther.

I have two RJ58's all parts are copyed from the original parts

same location, angle etc.etc.

In some places I increased the tube dia from 1" OD to 1 1/8" for

using flanged bronze bushings(front axle ends and lower steering wheel

shaft support) otherwise this is a copy of a original only in stainless steel

fabbed up a new stainless brake band and epoxyed in material that I remove from a original rj brake band

you can see the new belt tensioner pulley I turned out of stainless made mine with a sealed bearing held in with snap rings

wow. I work with stainless every day and I to want to build an all stainless machine. I don't know if I'll ever compete with this though

I e-mail Joe papke about the reproduction belt covers he sells and found

out that the guy who makes them for him could stamp me one out of stainless

but could not weld it for me which I replyed I would take care of that

I received a top plate and a flat strip so the first thing was to make a form

I cut out the shape of the top cover in a block of wood and sanded the edges smooth.I drilled a small hole for a screw and fastened one end down then

wrapped the piece around the form mark and cut the part to length drilled

another hole an fastened the strip down

added the top plate its ready to be welded

after the parts were welded together I used a angle grinder and a sanding disk to smooth out the welds and then sanded the whole piece with a foam sanding block

Words will never tell you how cool this is, your craftsmanship is awsome, but I want to know what this is costing???? you must get a killer deal on all that stainless, heck I have a hard time buying stainless bolts, let alone build a tractor again this is very nice, can't wait to see the end product :D

I'm not too far from Mecklenburg, I'd love to come up and take a closer look at this. But I know if I do, I'm gonna want a ranger built out of stainless!!!! (I like lawn rangers sorry)

I had a kohler k91 that I pick up some time ago for a different tractor

but deicided to use it on this one

I took her a part and mic'ed everything

replaced the rod ,honed the bore and new rings and did a valve job

also points ,plug,carb rebuild, new air cleaner assembly

had the recoil ,ponts cover and gov. arm gold zinc plated to match the new air cleaner

you can see the toolbox it was made out of 12ga

stainless heat shield

when the engine was apart I bored the exhaust port and pluged the tapped holes and threaded for 3/4" npt

heat shield in place engine has a stainless dipstick

belt guard

wheel rims and seat were powder coated white

used a gear oil bottle for a quick a easy gas tank

I would hope that Kohler engine cover is CNC'd out of a solid block of stainless steel or aluminum and then anodized red and not just some normal cover like the rest of us have that we sandblast and paint! Heck, Buzz and I could do that!
