rueger-99 0 #1 Posted June 9, 2010 I pulled the dash on my machine today to take out the amp meter and when I unplugged the ignition switch one of the terminals broke off. My local Toro dealer gave me a new switch #103991 to try but, no go! The Toro website list two different part #s for the same machine. 1) # 116338 2) # 111216 Called Toro and they were as useless as **** on a bull. My local dealer is going to order switch #1, if its the wrong one I have to eat his cost. My M# 73400 S#5900878 Can anyone tell me what switch I need? The terminals on the old switch had the letters stamped on the terminals and not on the switch body. From the bottom left, going clockwise looking at the terminal end: #1 - S #2 - M #3 - S #4 - ? This was the hot wire from the battery, It corroded and can't be read #5 - G Thanks, Chris

Save Old Iron 1,566 #4 Posted June 10, 2010 looks like the schematics for the 314-8 shows 2 different pin-outs for ignition switches. Terminals are marked S I B R L for 1998 to 2001 years (from Toro Demystification guide) or S L B M G for 1994 to 1997 years (from Toro Demystification guide) that MIGHT help narrow it down along with the year of your tractor. Since you mentioned a "G" terminal, you probably have the older version of switch intended for direct kill wire connection to the switch and not thru an ignition control solenoid. rueger-99 0 #6 Posted June 10, 2010 Ooops! the terminal I thought was an "I" was actually a "M". I hate my eyes!
Save Old Iron 1,566 #7 Posted June 10, 2010 Your right , both switch numbers are listed for that tractor. Not being a "part numbers" guy. I would assume the Toro dealership would take responsibility for getting you the correct switch, even if they had to order both to make sure one matched the one you have now. Someone else here may know or check on another parts site - maybe Stens has pictures. or call for some help from the parts folks I use http://www.jackssmallengines.com/help.cfm
rueger-99 0 #8 Posted June 10, 2010 Thanks Old Iron ! Found the switch in the "Time Saver" section of the Toro Demystification guide. 116338 is my part# Chris
Save Old Iron 1,566 #9 Posted June 10, 2010 Outstanding ! I'm glad that all worked out well. Looks like for once the Demystification guide actually did "DE" mystify something. :D
