dano53 1 #1 Posted June 8, 2010 I have a 5058 trans thats a little hard to find 3rd gear and the shifter feels a little sloppy too. I pulled the shifter out before splitting the case and found the ball has some flat spots. Can this be causing my problem? Would appreciate some feedback. rmaynard 15,598 #2 Posted June 8, 2010 Be sure to check the pin that holds the shifter in. If it is too loose, shifting is sloppy, if it is too tight, it won't be able to move all the way in each direction. Tighten it so that the shifter starts to get a little hard to move, then back it out just slightly and tighten the nut. If that doesn't help, and the flat spots are too bad, you may have to find a new shifter. Bob
dano53 1 #3 Posted June 9, 2010 Well I tried the pin adjustment but the end where you would adjust is broken so there isn't a way to make an adjustment . Looks like I need the adjusting pin and then maybe a shifter. Thanks for the help Bob. Dan
pfrederi 17,866 #4 Posted June 9, 2010 The pin is a dog point set screw (allen head). 1/4 -20 thread May be able to get it at a good hardware store.
