B-8074 19 #1 Posted June 5, 2010 I have a 1965 655 with a 7hp tecumseh that sat in a barn for five years full of gas. The fuel tank is full of rust and gummy varnish, so was the carb. Took the head off and the piston and valves were all rusty and had a thick layer off carbon on them, but they cleaned up pretty good. Next I'm gonna rebuild the carb and see if it fires up. If not I have an 8hp K-181 I could put on it, but not sure if I would have any issues with the swap. What do you all think? :D
Mrs. Ed 0 #2 Posted June 5, 2010 A little extra power never hurt, repower if it fits. :D

Buzz 502 #4 Posted June 5, 2010 It depends on whether you want a correct restoration or just a working tractor whether you switch engines or not. Just remember that the Tecumseh has a magneto ignition and the Kohler has a battery ignition. That means that they use different ignition switches and different wiring. Not a major problem to fix just a little speed bump in the road .
