wedgeheaded 0 #1 Posted May 30, 2010 I remotored my SB421 years ago with a 12hp kohler from Northern. It has a toggle switch and dimmer switch start button, that's how I left it. Lately it keeps blowing fuses. It didn't blow them in the thinned out part of the fuse like you'd expect, it melted out the sodder in the end of the fuse. After changing that fuse about 3 times in as many hrs, the lightbulb came on. I had a bad fuse holder! I changed the holder and have had no trouble since. Save Old Iron 1,566 #2 Posted May 30, 2010 A corroded contact in the fuse holder is heating up the metal end cap of the fuse and actually melting the solder which holds the fuse element inside the fuse body. Corrosion = resistance Resistance with high current flowing it = high voltage drop Voltage drop across resistance = heat generated Heat at the fuse contact heats the fuse body and melts the inner solder connecting the fuse element to the end cap.
