Tension spring for a 702 ?

I am looking to buy the spring that goes from the right pedal to the cotter pin in the frame, in my manual it is #7 and its called a tension spring. The one that came on it is long gone so I dont have one to use as a reference. Ace hardware has a decent selection of springs but I dont know how long it should be from end to end and I dont know how strong it is supposed to be etc. I saw a few in the selection of springs at Ace today but I dont know which one to buy.

Any help that you can give me would be really appreciated a LOT!

I'll try to remember later to pull it off the tractor and measure it. But in the meantime here is a pic:

Thanks Mike, I appreciate it the pic and your taking the time when you have it to measure it. I went to the only Toro dealer to see about buying the spring and also the shifter boot and they looked at me like I was crazy. I even told the that the shift boot was still in used by Toro and I gave him the part number too (if I remember correctly the boot is part number 3577 I have it written down somewhere) and he said that they had no record of them or anything that goes that far back,he pretty much blew me off. I ended up buying a couple of the shifter boots from Ebay. I think a lot of the problem is where I live, since WH's are so rare here, the Toro dealers here probably never had the parts to begin with and again since theyre so rare here,I would imagine that they never had anyone ask for any parts for a Wheel horse, all I ever get is a blank stare when I look for parts, in fact most times I ask I get one of two responces, one is Ive never heard of one, or they are antiques , we dont have anything for them

There is one outdoor power place that has a complete Raider 10 sitting in their yard covered with parts and such, they said its been there for close to 5 years and that they havent heard from the owner, I told them that I would like to buy it if they end up with it or if the buyer wants to part with it. I checked again a few weeks ago and they said that they have tried to contact the owner and have had no luck . They said they need to room so Im crossing my fingers that I can buy it. I think its commendable that even after all this time they are wanting to do the right thing by trying to contact the owner.I know most places would have got rid of it long ago.Im going to go check on it in the next week and see if theres been any developments. I sure would like to buy it if they cant reach the current owner. I dont want to snag it out from under the owner but if theyre no longer interested in it or moved away I would give it a good home... I promise

It's a shame your local "dealer" won't order parts for you. Maybe you should show them how anybody can buy parts directly from Toro... http://www.toro.com/index.html

Sorry John, I must've walked past my 502 20 times over the weekend, and thought "I need to pull that spring off and measure it" and then never did till right now.

Dimensions:

O'all Length (inside of hook to inside of hook) = 4 1/2"

Wire diameter .070"

Coil Outside Diameter .520"

Coil Inside Diameter .380"

52 complete coils plus the two half coils

Length of the coil itself is 3.570"

Hope this gives you enough to go on.

Hey, John! I don't know about things in your neck of the woods, but up here in Cow Hampshire we have an abandoned property statute. Ours is 90 days. Five years? I'd say that repair shop should already own that puppy on a mechanics lien!
