Is there a place that I can finda picture of the way especially the front guard bolt mounts on to the engine block I know it sounds simple but I am tearing drive belts upI assume the guard goes behind the bracket for the pto also the idler was replaced on the belt change and Im wondering if there is something I am missing also is there any pictures of the idler Im not sure that the pulley is in to far or as long as it is riding on the flat side of the belt it should be ok thanks

The belt guard does mount to the engine behind the bracket for the PTO, and behind the footrest. Other than that, the only thing that I can think of that would tear up the belts is mis-alignment of your transmission pulley to the engine pulley, idler assembly mis-aligned, or bent belt guides on the inside of the guard.

Jim,only thing I can think of is to make sure your belt is routed correctly on belt guide on rear side of belt cover,Rick

I am not sure if this will help, but here goes. I used to have a problem when I would depress/release the clutch/brake on my C-120 the belt was grabbing on the assy idler arm angle at the top. It had torn the original belt that was on the tractor when I bought it. I had no idea this was the actual problem until it grabbed hard enough to break something (can't remember what) in the transmission.

My local mechanic fixed the transmission and stated that he bent or tweaked the assy idler arm. The belts made now compared to 30 years ago are a little different in shape/length. This was the story he gave me. I didn't know enough to ask the right questions about the tractor back then.

Anyhow it fixed the problem I just wished I had asked him to show me exactly what he did.

Good Luck! :D

thanks guys but the problem that I have all of a sudden is that the idler or something is causing the belt as it feeds up to the pto pulley it seems to catch the guide to the point that it is throwing sparks Im ready to cut the inner gueard off to see if resolves the problem
