onceyapop4 0 #1 Posted May 14, 2010 I have a 1985 310-8 wheel horse that I picked up for free. I got it running and it cuts the lawn great. I was looking underneath and saw a metal rod just hanging. I can not figure out where it goes or what it is for. I can't seem to hook it up to anything and im not sure if I'm missing something. I am attaching some pictures. I need some help if anyone knows where it goes or what it's for. I can't seem to find any manuals online for this tractor or parts pictures. Thanks all for the help! mowerman1193 32 #2 Posted May 14, 2010 I think that rod is supposed to hook into the hole down on the bracket that is welded to the bar that the deck wheels are on to keep the deck level..To keep the front to back level you adjust the tuinion thing until you get it level.. mowerman1193 32 #3 Posted May 14, 2010 Well after looking again maybe not, LOL But you are missing the rod ( I think ) that I am speaking of as I think it mounts in the arm that goes up to the front of the deck and connects to one of the holes down on the bracket by the rollers..I would have to go look at mine to see what it looks like now but yours in not right anyway.. C-Series14 15 #11 Posted May 14, 2010 The 310-8 is a 1985 or newer like said before by Kelly. The silver rod with the trunnion does not go on the tractor. It looks like it is hooked in the lower bellcrank of the tractors lift arm. It goes where stated before, the trunnion goes in the hole on the rear wheel assembly of the deck and the "L" part goes in the hole on the flat stock that is seen in the side view of the deck like Don1977 posted with the pic. OK, your pic shows us the VIN, 21-10K801, the SERIAL number 11471. The VIN tells me it's a 1985.
onceyapop4 0 #12 Posted May 14, 2010 ok thanks how does the vin read?? what do the numbers read?
C-Series14 15 #13 Posted May 14, 2010 Well, it can be confusing on the first number, 2. In my book, that stands for 1985 but on other some other models, the first number doesn't jive with the system. The second number, 1 is Garden Tractor. 10= the hp, K= Kohler, 8= 8-speed, and 01 is parts list code. It is fairly easy to tell the hp, engine, and tranny from the VIN but the first number is no gaurantee! For example: 21-10K801=1985 21-10K802=1986 21-10K803=1986 21-10K804=1987 21-10K805=1988 21-10K806=1989 NOW... 31-10K801=1990 31-10K802=1991 31-10K803=1992 GET READY!!! 73320=1993 See what I mean. Some other 1986 models are 31-xxxxxx It is just safe to look in the book for the year! :D

gwgdog66 23 #17 Posted May 14, 2010 so that rod was attached to the deck lift lever brackets to another hole is there suppose to be another rod or is that one just in the wrong place?? It's just hooked in the wrong place. It looks like it is hooked in the wrong place. Where it is hooked to in the second photo is the tractor lift arm. That hole is where a clevis pin would be hooked up to a cable if you had a rear clevis hitch for ground engaging attachments like plows and such. Take it loose and hook it to the hole nearest the deck on the wheel rod, and to the center bracket. Like in the pic Don77 posted and you will be good. :D
