Don1977 604 #6 Posted January 18, 2012 I have a 1973 12hp with 8spd does it have teh 8 pinion rear? or how can I tell without opening it up? From what I can find out from the Toro information your tractor should have a 5091 transmission with 4 pinions. The 1975 and later C-120 had 8 pinions according to the Toro drawings. Don't know if this information is right. Taking it apart is the only way to know for sure.
John Voss 76 #7 Posted January 18, 2012 According to this the 5901 has 8 pinion, It also appears that the 4 pinion model has 1" shafts and the 8 pinion has 1 1/8" shafts. Is there any truth to this? I will measure my shaft size if that is the case. http://www.mywheelhorse.com/graphics/file/10-8/Wheelhorse_6-8MechTransMan.pdf
