First "Refurbishment" -- 1988 312-8

Well, I've been mumbling about my 312 project since last November, but with trying to get a new business off the ground, as well as a wife, three sons (ages 12-16) and big dumb dog, progress has been painfully slow. I promised myself that I wouldn't post anything here until I had some "red parts", and so while it's not much yet, I finally do have some red.

Hopefully, the pace will pick up and I can post some more progress photos shortly.

First, here's some images of the tractor as I got it, and tore it down.

And here are some shots of some parts in various stages of bare metal, primer and paint...

As you can probably tell, I'm working towards a rolling platform that I can build up from. So here is the first bit of reassembly. I don't have the front axle on yet because I missed a few pieces of hardware when I primed and painted my first batch of parts. Should be this weekend when they all come together. (Right now the steering shaft is just kinda' sitting there.)

So it's not much so far, but here it is as it begins to slowly come back to life...

Hopefully, more progress photos soon....

Looking really good, Ches! :D

BTW, was there any water in that tranny (looking at the shifter boot in the "before" shots)?

Looks like a real good start to me. I was also wondering about water in the tranny, that boot was in bad shape.

Thanks for the kind words....just wish I was further along!

And thankfully, no, the trans oil showed only faint traces of water. If I recall, the boot was deteriorated but mostly intact when the tear-down started. In pulling things apart, it got a little more shredded. My thoughts are that any moisture that was in the tranny was probably from cleaning the thing up once it was off the tractor!

:D
