jpmcleod 4 #28 Posted May 8, 2010 Can't wait to get my 312-8 put together. Hope it looks as good as yours. I like the black wheel look and have started your trend. Maybe you started something good. The black hoods are kinda like the new model Chevrolet pick-ups, 2007's and up. I really did not like the looks at first but they sure have grown on me. I am up to 2 black hoods and looking for more. As I understand it, the pre-Toro 300, 400 and 500 series are what folks commonly call the "maroon stripe" machines. Somebody got a more accurate answer, maybe? TT-(Moderator) 1,131 #31 Posted May 9, 2010 "Maroon stripes" should be 1985 to 1989 models - referring to the dominant color of the decals. Some of those are technically "Toro", but the name didn't appear on the (black) decals until 1990. I tend to group them all as "raccoons" due to the black mask around the "eyes".
