slot hitch

Recommended Posts

The slot hitch on my tractor is stuck. It barely moves even when beating it with a hammer(rubber mallet) I have tried soaking it in penetrating oil and nothing is helping. Any ideas as to why and how to fix it?

Like the others said, just keep lubing, heating and moving, lubing, heating and moving, until you get it freed up. Then, it isn't a bad idea to keep working with it until you can remove the pivot pin. Pull, drive, or press it out and clean ALL the rust/crud from it AND the hole in the tranny and hitch. Grease it up good and reinstall it, OR replace it with a large hitch pin that has a handle on it. The pins with handles can be easily wiggled from time to time to keep them rotating freely.

My goal is to get the pin out for paint and clean up. Should it have to be pressed out or should it slide out. I noticed there are not any retainer clips on the ends of mine but I figured there where supposed to be.

Examine the ends of the pin very closely checking to make sure the ends aren't mushroomed out. If someone else has tried to pound it out and ended up mushrooming the ends they will need to be filed back to round so you can get it out.

As has been stated above a 3/4 inch hitch pin from TSC or another rural supply store that is about 6 1/2 to 6 and 3/4 inches long with a pull handle on one end is a great way to go to repalce the pin in the rear of your transmission. You can change hitches much easier or interchange them.

Here is a photo on the back of a 1964 Wheel Horse 1054 with two hitches :

This works great and is an upgrade in my opinion!!
