The original round-case starter is #32817.

Don't be surprised when you see what the # on the new replacement is. :omg:

By the way.......

You can also used the motor portion of the 32468/32468A starter with your nose bracket and drive if you want to build a "franken-starter". :omg:

You just have to turn the housing 180

He must have seen you coming. :omg:

The first one I looked at:

http://www.smallenginesuppliers.com/shop/agora.cgi/15956

Pat's Small Engine Plus (in MN) has them for $84 shipped!

New aftermarket starters seem to be around $60 - $70.

Yes, Rick - everything I looked up went to the "new" number. (33835)

I actually checked the round-case starter on my '70 R-10, so I know the original number (32817) is correct.

I had one or two HH-100's with the square (replacement) starters and know they work fine. I think the different mounting bracket spaces them away from the block just enough to allow the drive gear with the extra tooth to mesh correctly with the ring gear on the flywheel.
