Restoring a snow blade

Recommended Posts

Since I'm already going to be doing some painting, I decided to go ahead and paint my snow blade as well. The serial number makes it a year older than my tractor ('96 vs. '97) but it must have seen some pretty heavy use in that time. It's no surprise that the paint is worn from the blade.

But the PO really should have flipped the wear bar over sooner :omg:

Plowing my drive a few times each winter will be like retirement for this blade. I figure with a new coat of paint, It will look good for as long as I hope to be using it.

A few hours with the angle grinder, wire brush and flap pad and the parts are ready to degrease and paint:

I'm going to take a page out of Ken B's book and paint the wear bar - what's left of it - black.

Hank, I envy you....the PO of my blade never flipped the wear bar and the mounting holes/bolts (your second picture down) on three of the attachment points are worn completely through. I've got to get some serious welding done before I can even start a rebuild. :omg:

On the plus side, the wear bars are still available for less than $30 at Jack's Small Engines, and as some here have pointed out, a small welding shop can probably fab one up even cheaper.

Looks like a nice set-up you're working on there!

Duff :D
