deadbolt 0 #1 Posted April 29, 2010 I have a wheel horse model 312-8 and the belt from the pto to the deck broke this morning. I am having trouble finding a belt number or a cross-reference number to replace the belt. If anyone has any ideas i'd apreciate it.

Check out this post, I think it has all the belt #'s for the 312-8. http://www.wheelhorseforum.com/index.php?...7&hl=312-8+belt Did a quick search hope it helps. tgranthamfd 29 #3 Posted April 29, 2010 It should be the one thet are calling the mule drive belt, the goes from the pto around the mule drive and to the front spindle pulley. and by the way :omg:
deadbolt 0 #4 Posted April 29, 2010 Hey thanks, i'll have to check it out, i think it was the wrong belt on it to begin with, a friend of mine gave me the mower and snow plow. Its still kind of a work in progress, had the throttle cable come off the bracket, and i'm pretty sure i have a short somewhere. When i turn the key off the light panel doesn't shut off, so i have to disconnect the negative cable to keep the battery from running dead.
Duff 206 #5 Posted April 29, 2010 Its still kind of a work in progress..... Aah - aren't they all? Still, the 312-8 is an excellent, solid machine well worth whatever it takes to get it back in shape. From my somewhat limited experience, for tractors that are otherwise incredibly stout and well built, wiring was not always one of Wheel Horse's strong points. If you take the time to run the wires, you'll undoubtedly find your problem. Just not quite sure where to point you first! !! Glad to have you aboard! deadbolt 0 #6 Posted April 30, 2010 Ran into the local farm and fleet to see if they could cross reference and get me the belt i need. No suprise that they were a little incompetent and could even get the size of the belt right. But i picked up a belt from napa and it is the correct width but still just a little to short. So i will continue to try and find the right one.
gwgdog66 23 #7 Posted May 1, 2010 :D Which mower deck do you have on your 312-8? If it is a side discharge deck the mule drive belt will be longer than one for a Rear discharge deck. We really like seeing the works in progress :wh:
Cessna 1 #8 Posted May 1, 2010 A nubie here. I have an old Workhorse GT 1142. I think it is from the 80s. I bought it around 1984 to mow my mother's yard. It has a B & S 11 hp engine. It does need a coat of paint on the hood. I'll try to take some photos.
deadbolt 0 #9 Posted May 6, 2010 It has a side discharge deck on it, but i think if i do end up keeping it and fixing it up, i will have to replace the deck. When i use the mower it doesn't cut level at all, i replaced the blades to. With the deck down when mowing the front right and center rollers are rolling on the ground but the front left roller is couple inches higher. So i'm guessing the deck is twisted a little. WheelHorse_of_course 99 #10 Posted May 6, 2010 Go to the links section of this board (pinned to the top) . In the "Other Links" section click on : Toro/WH Lubrication Recommendation Charts NOTE TO ADMIN: this should be labelled something better! :D
deadbolt 0 #11 Posted May 12, 2010 Well i got tired of fighting with the mower deck so i went and bought a new kubota t2380. But i am definetely keeping the wheel horse around. I looked yesterday and it had just over 2000 hours on it. I plan on fixing it up and putting the snow plow back on it.
RideRed 0 #12 Posted May 12, 2010 oh, you gave up too easy...but I understand, this is not the time of year to have a mower down. anyway, most likely your deck around the front spindle is warped. like ALOT of poor horses an uncultured previous owner has cranked down on the mule in an attempt to get the pto belt really tight. however, this also bends the spindle forward and warps the deck. I've got a 310-8 out back, I'll get the belt number if you still need it?
deadbolt 0 #13 Posted May 14, 2010 Ya if you have the correct belt number i would apreciate it. Yes watching the 2 acres of grass get taller and taller without a reliable mower was getting to me lol. But the wh still starts up on the first crank even in the middle of winter. I know the p.o and no it wasn't taken care of, oil was rarely changed or regular maintained. Plus with a new mower i'll have more time to work on the ol wh
