Save Old Iron

Painting a hot surface the color Black actually has an advantage, The black increases the "emissivity' - google it - of the metal surface.

A black surface emits additional heat from the ability to process the heat as increased emissions of long wave infra-red radiation.

A black surface is considered the standard of emissivity that all other colors are judged against i.e. all colors other than black don't dissipate as much heat thru radiation.

Just a quick update put a few more bits on the engine, the head is just resting on the top, does any one know of a good way of cleaning and polishing the head fins? dont really want to paint it.

well i have done a little bit more, i had the head blasted with glass beads at a local factory just waiting now for the new HT/ head bolts to come. Also i have bought a metal lathe which i have been trying out, not used one for over 39 years when i was at school, I have changed the front axles and tyres a bit :) . Here are a few pics.

Your tractor is beautiful. Very nicely done. It looks like the new spindles give it a wider stance. I like that a lot. Are you going to put the engine shroud on to direct the airflow up to the cylinder and head fins? :)

Hi brandon, the hubs and wheels where of an old 6x4 trailer i had, the stub axles i had to turn down on the lathe and bore out a 3/4" hole so it went over the tractor spindle which i had to shorten a bit.

Hi jim, i have put a picture on with the shroud, i cant put the tin work on yet, waiting for the new head bolts, and some cable sheath for the stator cables which were all cracked and split.

Hi Kevin,

Your tractor is coming along very well!!

I have the same tyres on the front of mine, they do look good.

Dont suppose you would want to make one of those exhausts would you??? I cant find one like it anywhere, and my welding skills arent up to making one!

Keep up the good work.

Simon.

Hi all, I bought some tail lights off ebay from the US :) , they came today and it said they were new and they fitted a GT14, they looked the same as the lights for my C-141, so i took a chance and bought them. And they fitted a treat :USA:. here is a pic of them fitted but not wired up as i am still doing the electrics.
