Headlight question

Recommended Posts

dodge78

On a C-160 and the likes, the headlight lense has some verticle lines across the bulb ares. Are those ribs to deflect the light or white paint to difuse the light? If the deflect the light, what kind of pattern do them make?

thanks

tom

probably just the artistic license of a designer trying to hide the bulbs somewhat and add some good looks to an otherwise plain jane piece of plastic.

Not a wacky answer, it just did not sound like an answer. It sounded more like a guess. If you had said "Its painted lines that someone took artistic license to" then I would have understood. Sorry I did not read into it enough.

I would take a guess:

that if there were no lines, just a clear front on the lens cover, the concave reflector would direct all the light almost straight out, in a narrow path, like a flashlight.

We want to see a wider and closer area for mowing, so those lines in the lens cover may act like little prisms to help diffuse the light to a wider path.
