Recommended Posts

i was working on my c161 last night and I was taken the dash apart. When I went to pull of the chock and throttle handles they broke in two.

Has anyone had luck gluing them?

Can new ones be found?

Heath, someone here said to try this company for knobs.

http://www.knobsdirect.com/

Apparently they have a lot of Wheel Horse compatible items and their prices are good. Haven't had to use them yet myself so I can't speak from experience.

I'll have to check them out. I did the prybar and vise-grip thing and as soon as any pressure was put on them and they snapped

Sorry to hear that yours broke. I have had much success with the pry bar technique.

Others have found that a little heat works well too.

GlenJeri has very nice repros. I have purchased some from him.

This is Glen (GlenJeri). Yes we do have the 70's knobs with the letters (on eBay right now); these letters have been cast into the knobs and are recessed down a full 2mm or 1/16"+, so they will never wear off (like the originals do in the center because the letters were 'hot stamped'). Hope to redo our 'GlenJeri' Vender site soon, these knobs & some other items are not there yet.

To Red Square members:

(1) the T-lettered 70's Choke/Throttle Knobs are $15/pair, plus $2 shipping (or free shipping with knobs below).

(2) the 4-speed Shift Knob & Hi-Low knobs are also $15/pair (these are identical to the originals with the Brass thread inserts cast into the knob (today, most knobs are just plastic threads), and the pair of included decals for these flat-top knobs are applied after you screw/lock down the Knobs), plus shipping of $2.50 (they are very heavy, 3 oz each). Extra set of perfect new decals for your own knobs are just $1/pair if included with your knob order, decals were made by Terry (www.redoyourhorse.com).

(3) The early 60's or the late 60's knobs are also available for $10/pair, plus $2 shipping.

To remove the old knobs, the best and safest way I know is: on a warm sunny day, use pieces of wood across the dash and a claw hammer to "rock-pry" off the knobs. The knobs being warm is very important, plastic softens slightly when it's warm, even at 100-120
