Changing Over from a Breaker-less Ignition

Recommended Posts

MaineDad

As some of you know, I am changing over my Bronco 14 with a breaker-less ignition to the traditional points breaker ignition. I thought I would do a video documentary of the process. I was wicked tired when I did this first part, so pardon the slowness :omg:

I will do an update later this week...

Update with pictures this time. Put the engine back on with a new crankcase gasket, reinstalled the shroud, plumbed up the throttle and choke, wired up the electric clutch then proceeded to rewire the entire ignition system. New points, points cover, coil, condenser, starter solenoid, battery, and ignition switch all with 10 and 12 gauge wire.

Once it was all done, I grounded the spark plug on a cooling fin and turned the key and what a spark! Nice bright spark that could be clearly seen in the sunlight. Tomorrow I will put the fuel tank and lines back on with a new fuel filter and fire it up. I'll try to video that process. :omg:

Where did you get the switch with the "I" pole. All of the ones at TSC have the "M" pole.

Good clean installation - nice work :omg:

I would probably loose the old fuse holder and wire in a new automotive style 30 amp holder to eliminate future issues.

Chuck, I was down at the auto parts store last night getting some in-line fuel filters and came across a nifty in-line fuse holder that takes an ATC or ATM (depending on size/application) spade-type automotive fuse. The holder is molded soft plastic or rubber and has a cap that snaps over the fuse once installed to keep moisture out. It has about 6" of #12 wire out of both sides to splice into an existing wire. Ever tried one of these?

Update:

The Bronco lives! Just a couple of turns and she fired. It starts on the first turn now. The flywheel screen is noisy because it is rubbing. I need to add some spacers. The tranny drives nice. I had to adjust the friction collar a bit. No leaks on the tranny, but the hydraulic lift has a small leak. That normal. It's for sale! Here's the video...

Great work!! It LIVES!! Why don't you keep it to run the harrows or tiller?? Looks like a good little worker, only with the 14hp it's not so little!!

Thanks for the tread and video! :omg:
