bo dawg 516 #1 Posted April 17, 2010 I heard a rattling on the tractor when finished with mowing and found the muffler kinda loose at the bottom so I removed it to find where it fastens now has a hole. I hope my picture comes through to see, I took it from the camera phone. Can it be fixed or do you think I need a nother one? if so anyone got one?
stevebo-(Moderator) 8,359 #2 Posted April 17, 2010 It looks pretty thin to me. You can try some of that muffler tape but I think welding it you would just blow through. I would be on the look for a new one.
mavfreak 11 #3 Posted April 17, 2010 there is nothing there to weld. can try that tape. I used it on a car was impressed
bo dawg 516 #4 Posted April 17, 2010 The piece thats missing is still attached to the tractor where it bolts to a bracket. So I wasn't sure if a piece and the bolt could be welded back on. Anyone have a good used one?
bo dawg 516 #5 Posted April 17, 2010 Toro shows it being discontinued, but I rather just find a good used one. :omg:
btrrg1969 11 #6 Posted April 18, 2010 although it is very thin you might be able to braze weld a patch over it , I have brazed metal together as thin as 0.030 " , its tricky but possible . good luck
Don1977 604 #7 Posted April 18, 2010 You could make a 16 gage strap to bolt around the muffler and weld the attach bolt to it. That could get you by until the muffler is burnt out.
bo dawg 516 #8 Posted April 18, 2010 Never thought about a strap that could work. My brother is going to take it to work in the maint. shop and tig weld it. Put a new patch on it with a new bolt. He said should work great, he's done a lot thinner before and worked ok. So at this point what do I got to lose. I will let you guy's know the out come. In the meantime if anyone knows where I can get another one let me know.
can whlvr 993 #9 Posted April 19, 2010 i needed a muffler for my c101 and it was more for the muffler than i paid for the tractor with a cherry mower deck,so i thought to myself i have nothing to loose by trying to stick weld it,i turned the power down, cleaned it very well and i was able to fix it up for now,i even put a new baffle inside, made it out of some thick wall pipe, drilled it and welded her back up,i have a year out of it and still going,im sure your brother can mig it real nice. bo dawg 516 #10 Posted April 21, 2010 My brother was successful in welding it back up He said had to set the welder as low as it would go and just tap it all the way around. Couple times it burn through but then cleared up. I will get a pic tomorrow before I put it back on. At least I think I'm good for a while, so I can find another one. You guy's let me know if you come across one or see on ebay or something please. :D
bo dawg 516 #11 Posted April 21, 2010 Here is a pic of the weld, due to the thinness of the metal it's not the prettiest weld but it's solid!
