family tradition 0 #1 Posted April 14, 2010 just trying to figure out whether the starter is bad or the solenoid is bad.because it was unning before i came in for dinner. went back back out to start it to put it in the shed and nothing. starter wheel moved but didn't engage. any idea where i can get a starter and a rebuild kit . it goes on a 8 hp kohler. algrc120man 0 #6 Posted April 17, 2010 if you have the kind of drive on your starter that has a rubber under the metal gear dont put lube around it if you do the lube will get between the rubber and metal and will slip kohler does not recomend lube in this area. if this is what is happening youll probably have to replace the drive which is around 60.00 from kohler stens may sell them cheaper but i dont have my book here. :omg: Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
