FarmerJim 5 #1 Posted April 10, 2010 Gentlemen. Please take a look at these pics -I hope I did it right! and can anyone help me identify just what I have here. This Little Horse followed me home after helping a co-worker tune up his Davis Trencher. Aside from the hellishly huge front rubber and the engine, would you fellas say this is a restorable? Thanks in advance to all you fine people that have helped me out!
1961551 2 #2 Posted April 10, 2010 jim, you have a 551. made in 1961. it came with a lauson 5.5hp engine. looks solid enough to me. i am partial to my round hoods. therefore, i would restore. jimmy
FarmerJim 5 #3 Posted April 10, 2010 Thanks Jimmy! I was raised on Raiders,C- series etc. but I always wanted a round hood. Actually in our family photo album there is a pic of me as a tot sitting on the hood of one of my Grandfathers that looks a lot like this one(only new). can you tell me are any trans parts available for these any more? buckeye 5 #4 Posted April 10, 2010 that look nice, looks like it's been painted ( decal has been painted over) alot of stripping to do. but worth it in the end. :omg:
tgranthamfd 29 #5 Posted April 10, 2010 551 tranny parts should still have a lot of them available.
Suburban 550 28 #6 Posted April 10, 2010 First of all Jim, like everyone else said, it looks like a very restorable 1961 551. Secondly, transmission parts shouldn't be too hard to find and personally it would be a great candidate for a full restoration. Good Luck with it. :omg:
rickv1957 72 #7 Posted April 10, 2010 Jim,good restorable tractor there! Rick
Doubletrouble 10 #8 Posted April 10, 2010 Check out those front tires! Other than the tires IMO it's a nice looking tractor. RESTORE RESTORE RESTORE
FarmerJim 5 #9 Posted April 11, 2010 Thanks Guys for your input! I traded a tune up on a K-241 kohler for it I think we were both tickled! Every time I see those front tires it surely makes me smile if not break out laughing. I'm with you fellas, I'm going to tear it completely down and completely go through it. The reason I asked about trans part availability is because of the wheel seals, Trans seems to work fine other than that.Stay tuned for more pics and lots more questions :omg:
