rydogg 186 #1 Posted April 2, 2010 Well I spent some time yesterday hooking up the tiller on the C121 and went to the garden to start tilling but first I got off the tractor to look for any rocks that should be picked up first and when I started back to the tractor it started to smoke which I thought was maybe just from the oil bath air cleaner that I had just put on but then all the sudden she started clattering and rod went I was lucky it was running at low rpms so it didn't mess up the block but I haven't pulled it apart to see the extent of the damage. Now I need to pull everything off and set it up on my C160 that I used for snowblowing last winter. I guess i'll need to add a k-301 to my list of things to look for at the upcoming Le Sueur swap meet. Is there anything different about the kohler block used in a Wheel Horse, I thought I heard that they made a narrow block and a wide block is this true? Roger from southern Iowa 1 #2 Posted April 2, 2010 Sorry to hear about your experience today. The engine is most likely rebuild-able. I'd pull it apart and check it out.
rickv1957 72 #3 Posted April 2, 2010 There is a big pan 301s and a small pan 301as which is what your tractor has,Rick
Raider12 13 #4 Posted April 2, 2010 I remember the gut wrenching feeling I had when my engine did this few years ago. It most cases like yours, it would probably be repairable. I would invest the money into the engine I have and not buy a replacement. Hope things turn out well for you. :D
