Difference from 300-400-500 Series

Recommended Posts

I had a 300 series as a kid, I'm trying to sell my LT133 to buy another Wheel Horse. I only have about 1/2 acre, but it's rough ground, not smooth, so bigger tires might help smooth it out and I want something that will hold up. I live in Huntsville, AL, so it gets hot in the summer, is a pressurized engine better in a hot climate?

I know I want a 300-400-500 series, but I'm not really sure what the real difference is.

I realize the 400 + 500 are heavier duty, but how so?

The frames are all the same, correct?

Do the 400's have bigger tires/wheels than the 300's?

Do the 500's have bigger tires/wheels than the 400's?

Are the 400 + 500 transmissions stronger than the 300?

Any engines to stay away from?

What should I look for? I want a nice shiny one I can be proud of, but I don't want to start out with any expensive repairs.

How do you test if the Hydro trannys are Ok or about to go? Same for the manual?

I assume the manuals are longer lasting than the Hydros?

Thanks in advance!

Sam
