bdunegan 0 #1 Posted March 29, 2010 just to let everyone know, i manufactured a lift cable and it works great!! in keeping with the HORSE tradition, i used a cable tie-down actually for a horse that already had the eyes crimped to it. it is also a size larger cable! i had it hanging in the shop from my cowboy days and thought it would work fine! had to cut one eye and about 2 inches of cable off, but on the front end, i was able to put the eye and ferrule into the trunion and use the same pin, so it swivels as supposed to, and the other end, i used a small thimble and cable clamp. works great! i set it so all the way down it will dig about 6 to 8 inches deep, and kept the chain so i can set the depth needed with it. have tiller hooked up now, and does that thing ever dig!!! thanks so much for all the ideas put into my head! bdunegan 0 #6 Posted March 31, 2010 the cable i am referring to can be bought at a farm and ranch supply for about $10. it usually has a trigger snap on one end and a leather strap on the other for hooking to the cinch on a saddle. it has a loop formed on each end. the open loop is about the size of a nickel. under the tractor the lift arm has a trunnion on it that the original cable hooks to. i was able to use the new cable on the trunion, and the loop fits around the pin as does the trunion, so i have a double strength point at the front. i ran it through the tube and had to cut off a little at the back, but used a small thimble and ran it through the lift arm at rear and used a cable clamp to secure it. these tiedowns can be bought in different lengths, so it may be possible to find one just the right size. i already had mine on hand. tilled about a 30 by 50 garden with it yesterday and other than the smoke it did great. will post pics of my set-up soon as i get a chance!!! if anyone has any questions on my cable set-up, feel free to ask! bk-scouter 93 #7 Posted March 31, 2010 The problem I'm running into is that I'm using the factory cable tube with a homemade cable, and I'm not getting the proper cable travel clearance. The cable clamps are hanging up at both ends and not allowing full travel with the manual attachment lift handle So I'm interested in seeing your pictures on how you were able to get around it. bdunegan 0 #8 Posted March 31, 2010 mine has the hydro lift, but on the front underneath where the trunion that the original cable with the ball end hooks to, i was able to run my cable through this just as original, then the pin runs through my loop and the trunion just as original, so this works as original on front. then on rear, i used a small thimble and run it with the cable through the hole in the lift arm and secured it with a cable clamp. make sure your tube on the rear hasnt slipped rearward and is held down with the tube hold down clamp. my tube just barely sticks rearward through the clamp. i still have about two inches of travel when lift is raised all up before the clamp hits tube. hope this helps, if not, ask again. will post pics just soon as i figure out how!!
